Infants can have lung problems from mold

Mold growing in your home can be dangerous for every member of your family. Anyone of any age, even if they are otherwise healthy, can be made very sick if exposed to certain types of mold that can be found in your home. Infants are particularly susceptible to a type of toxic mold known as black mold.

Black mold is known to be very dangerous, and exposure to it can make people very ill. Toxic mold is incredibly poisonous when eaten, and it also is hazardous when the spores are airborne.

Of all the diseases and conditions tied to mold, Pulmonary Hemorrhage, or bleeding of the lungs, is one of the most frightening. Experts have yet to conclude whether or not this condition is definitely tied to black mold exposer in infants, but parents should probably err on the side of caution when dealing with this toxic fungus.

Pulmonary Hemorrhage has a high mortality rate of 30% to 40%. It is characterized by acute bleeding from the lungs and the upper respiratory tract. The condition often presents itself with bleeding in other sites as well as over a third of the child’s lungs. This is a painful and unpleasant disease, so it is best to take any precautions that one can to avoid it.

Again, there is no conclusive proof that black mold indeed causes this condition, but it is an excellent idea to avoid exposing an infant or child to mold at all costs. Make sure that your home is not damp or humid, and if it is take steps to remedy the situation. Keep your environment dry as soon as possible, and consult with a waterproofing professional to try to ensure that additional dampness does not creep back into your home.
