Contractors join the Home Builders Association (HBA) to increase visibility, credibility, and marketability, but membership in the HBA is not just good for the contractor. Choosing a member of the HBA is good for customers too.

In order to become a member of the HBA, a contractor has to meet strict membership guidelines. To retain membership, contractors must continue to meet and hopefully exceed these guidelines. All members must pass a stringent screening process. This process ensures that HBA members are quality contractors, with few exceptions.

The HBA’s strict guidelines for membership was established to protect consumers, but this doesn’t mean that every contractor in the HBA is on the up and up. As with any group, there’s a chance for a few bad apples to sneak by. Even if a contractor is an HBA member, still follow up with their references and do some homework on them before you hire them for your home project.
